NewcomersLjubomir Kerekeš: “ NEWCOMERS ”

Director and stage designer: Ljubomir Kerekeš

Costume design: Karmen Štrlek

Lighting director: Marijan Štrlek

Sound engineer: Siniša Medved

Scenic painter: Mladen Posavec +

Acting (and playing around with each other): Ljubomir Kerekeš, Draško Zidar, Mijo Pavelko.

Ljubomir Kerekeš’s kajkavian love and erotic comedy inspired by (“get excited”) Decameron of Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375), was conceived in the manner of medieval folk theaters, at a time when women’s roles were played by men, and actors themselves were directors.

NewcomersThe play deals with one eternal theme, male-female relationships with many comic elements, while demanding, deliberate errors in the play are covered by maximal acting means.

This is a difficult task, but with this the “Newcomers” raise the awareness about the fact that we play today and for today’s audience and this in order to emphasize that over the century the negativity of interpersonal relationships, from the position of women in society and violence in marriage to bribery and the functioning of authorities or those craving for power have not changed significantly.

The author’s note says “not recommended below 14,3 …”.

Premiere: 26th of June 2009. Stage “Z.Rogoz” Croatian National Theatre in Varaždin.
